Sales Tax

Florida state sales tax is required by Florida Statute and is computed at the rate of 6% of the purchase price, less trade-in (if applicable) on vehicle and vessel purchases.

In addition, many counties in Florida levy a local discretionary surtax, which is calculated on the first $5,000 of the vehicle or vessel purchase price. Gadsden County levies a 1 and 1/2% discretionary surtax which is capped at $75.00.

As an agent for The Florida Department of Revenue, the Tax Collector is responsible for collection and disbursement of sales tax on vehicle and vessel purchases.
